Discipline based on
Students are expected to be present in the community throughout the semester and to reflect regularly on their experiences… using the course content as a basis for their analysis and understanding.
Based on questions (project-based)
Students (or student teams) serve community organisations as “consultants” working for “clients”. Students work with community members to understand a specific problem or need.
Keystone
Learners use the knowledge gained in the course and integrate it into relevant service delivery work in the community.
Exploring community action
In this model, students work closely with teachers to learn research methods and act as community advocates.
Pure SL
At the intellectual core of these classes is the idea of service to the community. They do not usually belong to any one discipline. The aim is to prepare students for active and responsible participation in community life.
Service traineeship
Unlike most regular internships, SL internships have regular and ongoing opportunities for reflection, helping students analyse their new experiences using discipline-based theory.
