April 3, AD 33

A chronology of Jesus aims to establish a timeline for the events of the life of Jesus. Scholars have correlated Jewish and Greco-Roman documents and astronomical calendars with the New Testament accounts to estimate dates for the major events in Jesus’s life. According to the three synoptic gospels Jesus continued preaching for at least one year, and according to John the Evangelist for three years. Five methods have been used to estimate the date of the crucifixion of Jesus. One uses non-Christian sources such as Josephus and Tacitus. Recent astronomical research uses the contrast between the synoptic date of Jesus’ last Passover on the one hand with John’s date of the subsequent “Jewish Passover” on the other hand, to propose Jesus’ Last Supper to have been on Wednesday, 1 April AD 33 and the crucifixion on Friday 3 April AD 33 and the Resurrection two days later. The Christian gospels do not claim to provide an exhaustive list of the events in the life of Jesus. Nevertheless, the gospels provide some details regarding events which can be clearly dated, so one can establish date ranges regarding major events in Jesus’ life by comparison with independent sources. The date of birth of Jesus of Nazareth is not stated in the gospels or in any secular text, but most scholars assume a date of birth between 6 BC and 4 BC.

See Mal. This is the first of two articles that discuss the importance of this restoration and suggest that it occurred on an Easter day chosen in part because of its symbolic significance.

After noting some of the reasons why other dates have been proposed, this article suggests that modern revelation supports that date. Part 2 will consider the relationship of the Passover ceremony to the Lamb of God and then will discuss the return of the Savior, Moses, Elias, and Elijah; the priesthood keys and authority they restored; and the significance of this restoration occurring on 3 April

Since all four gospels depict the ministry of Christ beginning after that of It’s also possible that Jesus just advanced the date of the Passover.

At one point they thought He had lost His mind. Having been rejected in His hometown of Nazareth, Christ moved to Capernaum, one of the towns around the harp-shaped Sea of Galilee.

The few architectural remains indicate the buildings were spacious and well constructed of dressed stones and large amounts of plaster. Archaeologists have found at Capernaum the remains of a beautiful limestone synagogue dated to the fourth or fifth century. The Gospels even include the detail of who built the synagogue in Capernaum.

Chronology of Jesus

Though the fact that Jesus was a historical person has been stressed, significant, too, is the fact that a full biography of accurate chronology is not possible. The New Testament writers were less concerned with such difficulties than the person who attempts to construct some chronological accounts in retrospect. That the accounts of Matthew and Luke do not agree is a further problem.

Bruce explains how this model accounts for virtually all of the historical factors involved with dating Jesus’s ministry: The crucifixion of Christ took place, it is.

Jesus’ early Galilean ministry begins when after his baptism, he goes back to Galilee from his temptation in the Judaean Desert. The major Galilean ministry which begins in Matthew 8 includes the commissioning of the Twelve Apostles , and covers most of the ministry of Jesus in Galilee.

In the later Judean ministry Jesus starts his final journey to Jerusalem through Judea. Jesus’s Baptism is generally considered the beginning of his ministry and the Last Supper with his disciples in Jerusalem as the end. The date of the death of many familiar historical figures is known. But there is no definitive date for the death of Jesus. However, there is enough evidence for it to be calculated. All gospels agree that Jesus died on the day before the Sabbath; Friday. However, there can be no doubt that Jesus rose on the first day of the week, a Sunday, and that it was the third day, inclusive, since His crucifixion, which means that He died on a Friday.

All gospels agree that Jesus was crucified at the time of the Passover. The crucifixion took place under the high priest Caiaphas[7] who held the position from AD 18 to
